Macy’s Karl Lagerfeld line draws you in

9/26/2011

Right now, I’m smitten with a little black dress from Karl Lagerfeld’s limited-edition collection for Macy’s.

Button front. Gathered waist. A-line skirt. It’s classic yet modern with its oversized white collar, a signature of the Chanel designer.

It’s $124 at Macy’s stores and macys.com while supplies last.

The overall collection — which is as close to affording something from Chanel as I’ll probably ever get — features fabulous tweeds, including a long-sleeved coat that stops just above the knee for $169, dresses that start at about $100 and a three-quarter-length sleeve, faux leather jacket for $119.

Lagerfeld relies heavily on the classic black-and-white color combo but also includes splashes of pink.

JUST LIKE MISSONI

So you missed out on the limited-edition stuff from Missoni at Target the other day.

The bad news, according to Target spokeswoman Jessica Deede, is that supplies of the Missoni products will not be replenished — even though some store managers expected to get new shipments.

It’s possible some new things will show up, the result of returns from shoppers who had second thoughts.

But if you need a fix that will remind you of Missoni’s iconic zig-zag print, take a look at this 5-by-8-foot rug from overstock.com.

It’s the Dershyl Multicolor Geometric Rug. Prices on overstock.com often vary within a few dollars from day to day; late last week it was $139.99.

CONSIDER SPLURGING ON PRETTY POLLY TIGHTS

We’re coming up on tights season, which is why you may want to splurge on these tights by House of Holland for Pretty Polly, a popular brand in the United Kingdom that is finally making its way to us.

Black opaque tights with sheer tops are made to look like you’re wearing garter belts.

They’re $34 at nordstrom.com.

They might not be suitable for some workplaces, but they are fabulously interesting.

Urbanoutfitters.com also has a selection.

AS SEEN IN STORES

THE PRODUCT: Great Lash mascara by Maybelline.

THE PITCH: Great Lash conditions as it makes your lashes look double their size; won’t clump or glob up. It’s hypoallergenic and available in washable and waterproof formulas.

THE PRICE: $6.40

THE PROS: It really doesn’t clump. Goes on easily and does make lashes look longer and thicker; the price; its availability at just about every pharmacy and mass merchandise store in the nation.

THE CONS: Doesn’t thicken like some of the more expensive brands, including Dior’s show line of mascaras. And it may not have the cachet of some of the designer brands.

THE BOTTOM LINE: It works great and is a fabulous way to cut down on your makeup expenses.
