Chicago's new tourism song

Does it make you want to visit?

4/26/2012

What do you get when you put Buddy Guy, a Peter Cetera-less Chicago and Umphrey’s McGee together?  A new anthem for the Windy City.

The city’s tourism arm, Choose Chicago, commissioned the tune to entice folks from around the globe to put our world-class city first on their list of vacation destinations.

We’ll leave the music criticism to you.

FM News reporter Lindsey Reiser hit the streets to get reactions:

Take a listen and tell us what you think.

A musical abomination!!! It sounds like theme music for a morning news show. Who was in charge of this project? Go back to the studio and burn the masters!!!

1975 called, and they want that song back. You would think that with all of the talent that Chicago has (Eddie Vedder, Liz Phair, Billy Corgan, Eddy Clearwater, Shemekia Copeland, Dennis DeYoung, Lonnie Brooks, Richard Marx, etc.,) that someone would have composed a much better song.

My reaction to hearing this piece of trash:

If there is a God, please make your presence knows and smite every single person who was involved in the making of this awful witchcraft. This is cruelty and I don't want to live on this planet anymore because of absolute disgust.

In conclusion, I'm filing a lawsuit for statutory rape of my ears. Peace be with you all.

This is HORRIBLE, SLOW MOVING AND IT DRAGS. Chicago is an EXCITING CITY, do not use this song to represent Chicago. New York with Jay Z and Alicia Keys sounds much better than this. PLEASE DO NOT EMBARRASS OUR CITY WITH THIS SONG.

@Janis, Chicago Exactly my sentiments! Slow moving and no spank to it! I listen to Jay Z's and Alicia Keys' NY over & over on my iPod cuz it moves me! Please don't embarrass us locals by using this boring song to represent our awesome city! I've lived off of Rush Street now for 25 years and there's a pulse and energy that doesn't compare to the lack of energy one may find when you're tucked away in a suburb writing sappy tourism theme songs!

That is seriously one of the worst songs I have ever heard! I couldn't force myself to keep listening for more than 30 seconds. Did they let anyone listen to this song before they decided it represented the city of Chicago?

I've lived here my entire life and this is a fun and exciting town, not dull and boring like this song. It sounds like they wrote it for third graders. Chicago, please don't adopt this song or tourists will fall asleep when they hear it and forget they were coming to visit.

Although we could use this song to keep Stranger Danger away...

Congrats to whichever kindergardener won the school rhyming competition and got their song recorded.
